Is a Second Bachelor’s Degree Worth It?
Is a Second Bachelor’s Degree Worth It?
You may have decided that the current career you’re in is no longer where you want to be, or maybe you’ve professionally hit a wall at your current job. Even though college and earning your bachelor’s degree may seem like a long time ago, it’s never too late to earn another degree.
According to The Balance Career, workers switch their jobs an average of 12 times over the course of their career. In order to do this, you may need a new set of credentials or a new degree in order to get the next job of your dreams. Going back to earn a second bachelor’s degree is a great way to earn the requirements you’re missing so you can get qualified and on the right path to your new job.
If a change in job or industry sounds like something you’d be interested in, consider going back to school and earning another bachelor’s degree.
Below is a list of reasons why our scholarship students are choosing to go back to the classroom and get another bachelor’s degree.
Less Time in the Classroom
If you already hold a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree may seem like the next logical step on your educational journey. But it’s not your only option. Going back to school and earning a second bachelor’s degree can be a faster way to learn more and earn the qualifications you will need for another career.
Having multiple bachelor’s degrees is a great way to show an employer that you are interested in this career choice and dedicated to learning more about it. Those who already have a bachelor’s degree may only need content classes in the major of their choice to obtain a second bachelor’s, which decreases the number of classes you’ll have to take. Many schools now offer multiple classes online with plenty of different start dates, helping you finish classes (and your degree) much faster.
Save Some Cash
Colleges typically charge less for bachelor-level courses compared to master-level course. Because of this, you could save a significant amount of money when opting for a second bachelor’s degree. Online degree programs also typically cost less than classes that meet on campus. These benefits could help you reduce your cost while you increase your salary.
Career Advancement
After a few years on the job, you may have the itch to move up in your company’s ranks and have more responsibilities. In many jobs, the best way to do this is to learn additional information. You could be looking for a degree to learn about another area that relates to your job or to learn something completely new. No matter what it is, the more knowledge you have, the more attractive you will look to employers. A bachelor’s degree shows dedication to the job, which is always good when you’re looking for more at work.
You Are Ready for a Change
Deciding what you want to do right after high school or in your early twenties doesn’t always translate to what you want to do forever. Your interests change as you get older, move, start a family, or hit other adulthood milestones. While change can be scary, it’s important to something that gives you satisfaction or a sense of purpose. Assessing your likes and interests is a great way to begin deciding what you want to do next. After you pick your next career path, you’ll need to get the knowledge and qualifications to get the job. Many times, this means a new degree. Earning another bachelor’s degree shows your new employer that you are serious about this new career and that you value your education. This dedication could be rewarded with a new type of job, a promotion, or a salary increase. There’s no need to be scared about change: put yourself first and go for it.
Keep Up with the Trends
Many of today’s employers have different departments and job duties within their company. After spending time at a job, you may have seen another job that looks more exciting to you. This job may also require more qualifications or education. Going back and earning a bachelor’s degree in a new field is a great way to become qualified for new jobs that you may be interested in. Another bachelor’s degree also shows employers that you value the job and the work you’re doing and that you’re ready for more.
Going back to school is always a big decision and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. That said, the knowledge and credentials you can gain when earning a bachelor’s degree is something that will stick with you for a lifetime. A second bachelor’s degree could be a big help in making the transition into a new role or a new industry.
