Washington, DC (Sept 26, 2008) – The Imagine America Foundation is pleased to announce that the LDRSHIP Award for 2008 was awarded to Jason Brandon for his outstanding achievements as both a student of Westwood College and as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Brandon has firsthand experience with leadership. In January 1999, he enlisted in the Human Resources field of the Army, where he immediately made a positive impression on his superior officers and classmates. During his first week at school, Brandon received Soldier of the Month and was named squad leader for six weeks out of the ten-week course. After school, he continued to build upon his leadership success. While stationed in Korea, Brandon graduated from the Leadership Development Course and was quickly promoted to Sergeant.

Now Brandon is putting forth the same enthusiasm and commitment into his current career. He is leading by example in the classroom at Westwood College, where he’s pursuing his Bachelor degree in Game Software Development.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2008, while in Washington, DC, Brandon was honored with the Imagine America Foundation’s LDRSHIP Award.

The LDRSHIP Award was established to recognize outstanding career college students who have served their country honorably through military duty. The award is given annually to men and women nationwide who exemplify: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage.

“My parents have always encouraged me to do the best I can,” says Brandon, “and I try to achieve what I’m looking for. It’s the purpose of life. Doing the best you can. I have a six-year-old son. I have to better myself to make his life better.”

The awards ceremony took place in a prestigious IAF sponsored event on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, co-hosted by and in cooperation with the Career College Association. Brandon, along with five other outstanding individuals, was presented with a $5,000 cash grant to be used towards completing their career educations.

“It’s a privilege to honor the 2008 LDRSHIP recipients with this award,” said Robert L. Martin, Imagine America Foundation president. “For their admirable and courageous service to our country, we extend deepest appreciation. It’s now our turn to give something back to them.”

Brandon has also received numerous military awards and honors. He’s been distinguished with two Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Korea Defense Service Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Throughout his college career, Jason has maintained a 3.85 GPA and a nearly perfect attendance record.

“I’m very happy,” says Brandon. “This doesn’t happen to me often. I’m extremely surprised and I’m very grateful to be receiving this award.”
